So it is particularly poignant that the Doctor manages to head off a similarly costly conflict in The Zygon Inversion, simply by making its full scope clear to the warmongering Zygon Bonnie, who has assumed the shape of Clara Oswald. And that full scope involves looking in the mirror. Read more...

New Grateful Dead music with John Mayer? Hey, it could happen.

John.mayer_.bob_.weir_
Feed-twFeed-fb

LOS ANGELES — John Mayer is, by any seasoned Deadhead's measure, a real newbie.

Already four albums and seven Grammy wins into his career as a radio-friendly pop/rock star, Mayer first "heard" the Grateful Dead in 2011. The song was "Althea," a late-vintage Dead song co-written and sung by the late Jerry Garcia — and on Pandora Radio, of all things

Smash cut to four years later: Mayer is about to stand in Garcia's shoes, playing lead guitar and singing dozens of songs during a 15-show fall tour billed as Dead & Company. The latest reunion kicks off Oct. 29 in Albany, New York (with a bonus "free" show Nov. 7 at Madison Square Garden for the Dead's charity, the Robin Hood Foundation). Read more...

The time jump — which has seen increased popularity in TV drama premieres, from Halt and Catch Fire, to The Leftovers, to Masters of Sex — has allowed Carrie’s life to quiet down considerably since her involvement in season four’s Islamabad bloodbath at the U.S. Embassy.

Marion Cotillard: Feminism is creating 'separation' in Hollywood

42-72637998
Feed-twFeed-fb

Marion Cotillard doesn't identify as a feminist. In fact, the Academy Award winner believes the very word is harming the film industry.

Hollywood's female actors, directors and writers report consistent sexism, ageism, sexual harassment and exclusion from jobs and accolades.

But in an interview with Porter Magazine, Cotillard, who appears as Lady Macbeth in Justin Kurzel's Macbeth film adaptation, argued that the vocal push to include more women in Hollywood creates an unnecessary separation of genders.

"Filmmaking is not about gender," she said. "You cannot ask a president in a festival like Cannes to have, like, five movies directed by women and five by men. For me, it doesn't create equality; it creates separation. I mean I don't qualify myself as a feminist." Read more...
