Tom Hanks begged to be discovered at 18 because he knows what's best for us

Tom Hanks is always looking out for you — yes, you!

That's why teenage Hanks wrote an extremely polite and earnest letter to George Roy Hill, director of The Sting, asking Hill to help him make it in Hollywood. Hanks was modest; he didn't explain to Hill that America needed an extremely pleasant superstar, but he must have known. He did this for us

NPR recently unearthed the gem at the Margaret Herrick Library in Beverly Hills

"No one outside of Skyline High School has heard of me," writes Hanks before referring to himself as "not stunning." Still, Hanks, being the overgrown puppy of a person he is, kindly asks Hill to consider giving him a break and proposes a few scenarios for his potential discovery to make things easier on the director Read more...

Joe Carter is a retired five-time MLB All-Star and two-time World Series champ who hit a walk-off home run to win it all for the Toronto Blue Jays back in 1993

In short, the man has accomplished a lot. But even he admits you haven't "made it" until you show up on a Drake track

Just catching up? Drake and fellow rapper Meek Mill are currently involved in what those in the industry call a "beef," ever since Meek accused Drake of using a ghostwriter for his lyrics. Drake has since dropped not one but two diss tracks on Meek's head. The second of those hit Wednesday morning and is called "Back to Back;" Meek gets utterly destroyed on it Read more...

Jordan Spieth has first Masters-era golf Grand Slam in sight as British Open approaches

Jordan-spieth

Feed-twFeed-fb

The final day of the 2015 Masters Tournament, said 21-year-old Jordan Spieth, “was arguably the greatest day of my life.”

Spieth had just become the second-youngest Masters champion; he didn’t allow a single competitor to come within three shots of his lead. He dominated the tournament in every form, and his status as one of the PGA Tour’s most promising golfers was certainly secure.

But Spieth’s performance at Augusta was just the beginning of a recurring trend

Since then, he’s won three more PGA Tour tournaments — including a second major championship at the U.S. Open. He’s now in position to make his Masters triumph look like a small step toward an exponentially larger achievement. Spieth, a winner of both majors this year, is halfway toward winning golf’s first Grand Slam in the Masters era — a feat accomplished by winning all four major tournaments in the same year Read more…

The Simplest, Cheapest, Most Effective Task Management Solution I've Found

Managing a To-Do List has been the bane of my existence for more years than I care to think about. As the CEO of a growing company I tried out countless Task Management Software programs along with exploring about every To-Do App that got released. Yet, no matter how many systems I tried I couldn’t seem to make one work. Usually I ended up spending so much time creating the To-Do Lists in these systems that I had no time to actually do my To-Dos! After repeated failed attempts I was beginning to have a complex - Was I really incapable of staying on top of everything that needed to get done? Finally I decided to really dig into the root cause of why I couldn’t make these systems work for me, and the things I discovered led me to implement the simplest, cheapest, most effective task management solution imaginable. Yet that solution genuinely changed my life!

An Australian visual artist has launched a Pozible campaign to attract the attention of diverse women and their supporters.

The Pozible fundraiser, started by Adelaide artist Amy Herrmann, asks for financial support for her art project titled: "Underneath we are ..."

It hopes to portray women in a different light from the all-too-common depiction in media, advertising and most visual forms in society.

"Underneath, we are ... young, fat, tall, we are trans, skinny, disabled, we are mothers, we are short, scarred and old," the campaign reads. "We are the many labels that society has created for us. But what if I told you that underneath, underneath it all ... We are women." Read more...

ZTE is not a household brand in the U.S., but the Chinese cellphone manufacturer desperately wants to be.

In the lead-up to the announcement of the Axon, its new U.S. flagship smartphone, there was no mention that the device was made by ZTE

"We wanted to focus on the phone, not the brand," Jeff Yee, ZTE vice president of technology and partnerships at ZTE USA, announced at the Axon's launch event on Monday in New York City.

The Axon is the company's first smartphone that hopes to change the brand's image and link it with affordable luxury — a pivot many Chinese companies like Asus are attempting to execute as well. Read more...
