Australian scientists set to receive our closest ever images of Pluto

As NASA's New Horizons spacecraft nears Pluto and its moons Tuesday night, a team of Australian scientists will have a front row seat.

Part of NASA’s Deep Space Network, the Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC) at Tidbinbilla will be the first place on Earth to hear from the spacecraft as it passes Pluto after nine long years of travel

At 9:49.57 p.m. AEST Tuesday, the craft, which left Earth in 2006, will make its closest pass ever to the dwarf planet. Floating around 12,500 kilometres above the surface, New Horizons will collect measurements and images of Pluto and transmit them back to Earth. Read more...
