Veteran Showtime drama Homeland returned for a fifth season Sunday night, and with it pushed ahead two years in the life of now-former CIA operative Carrie Mathison.
The time jump — which has seen increased popularity in TV drama premieres, from Halt and Catch Fire, to The Leftovers, to Masters of Sex — has allowed Carrie’s life to quiet down considerably since her involvement in season four’s Islamabad bloodbath at the U.S. Embassy.

No longer working for the CIA, Carrie now lives in Berlin and is in a steady relationship with a man named Jonas who, like or it not, bears a vague resemblance to her deceased flame Nick Brody.
