"Cartel Land" is a compelling, important documentary. Matthew Heineman’s film provides access and insights into the inner working of two vigilante movements. It follows the story of Tim “Nailer” Foley and his pack of paranoid freelance border patrollers and delves into the personal life of Dr. Jose Mireles, one of the leaders of the heavily armed vigilante movement that rose up to fight the notorious Caballeros Templarios drug cartel in the southwestern state of Michoacan. “I believe what I am doing is good and what I am standing up against is evil,” says Nailer.
