The City of Charleston announced on Thursday that anonymous donors have put more than $3 million toward a fund that will award college and other advanced-degree scholarships to the "extended Mother Emanuel AME Church community," where nine black parishioners were fatally shot last month

The Reverend Pinckney Scholarship Fund is named after Clementa Pinckney, the former pastor of Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, who was one of the nine victims. U.S. President Barack Obama eulogized Pinckney in Charleston last week.
